This is not in response to any one person or recent event. It is something I have been meaning to express my thoughts on for some time.  However, I have lightly touched on it before.
   At first 'surprise' is the word I would have used but I think now its more of a fascination and curiosity when deviantART puts out new features such as llama badges, cake badges, Groups, points, and so forth. There is always something of a this-is-destroying-dA (or the like) response.
   I am aware that change will most always be met with some level of hostility. To some it appears that these features make the art mean less. I can't see that. The ART in deviantART comes second but is in caps - ART will for always be the core root of this site. Is ART all that defines an Artist? No, we are all deviant too.
   It is the beautifully elegant combination of

deviant

and

ART

that forms this sense of Community we have here. People come and go like a storm over the plain but if you plant yourself here long enough you can feel it. Think of your physical community from whence you read this- are there not unique aspects of it? Landmarks? Geology? Parks, Museums, Other? Yes! To an outsider it might just be land, road, and buildings but to you it is memory, emotion, and life.
These features help make deviantART deviant from the other communities. They make it ours. I don't even care about the but-they-could-have-been-working-on-a-bug argument. I'll give it to you that perhaps that is true but who are you and who am I to assume to know what is really going on behind the curtain? Further, I think staying devious - remembering to carpe diem - is just as important as fixing a bug.
