Discovering what makes us devious.

JocelyneR  :iconjocelyner:

How did you first discover deviantART?
 I heard of DA because of a friend who was a member since a few months. He knew I loved to photograph too. So, I am on here since more than two years now.

What was it about dA that made you want to stay?
 Oh, at first, I was thrilled to upload some of my photos on Internet and to receive feedback.
Just know that it was my very first real experience on Internet, I was just going on there for my work and for emails before.
Little by little, I got in contact with other deviants, exchanging comments, making friends, etc. As I am quite talkative, all of this happened fast enough...
Also, I like the way DA is working, the framing, the many possibilities it offers, like journals, articles, polls, statistics and many other features. I am very at ease on its environment.

What is the story behind your username?
 Very simple. My godmother's first name and the first letter of my second name.

What do you remember of your childhood in regards to art?
 Aww, my childhood has been full of joy and happiness! My extended families, my father side and my mother side, were quite numerous. Concerning art, you mean any arts? It came mostly from my mother side. I was surrounded by music at home, classical and semi-classical music but also pop and jazz. And at my grand-mother's house, it was the same thing. Quite a few of my aunts were also painters and one of my uncle was a beautiful figure skater.
I learned piano during 12 years, beginning at seven. I was null at drawing, despite the fact I was desperately trying to draw all the time.
My father was having a 16mm camcorder and a complicated analog camera. He was very good at it, he was having a very good eye.

Was there anything or anyone in particular that prompted your choice of art form?
 Talking of piano, I didn't have the choice, my parents decided for me and for my six other siblings. :D
But I always wanted to own a camera, a camcorder of course but also a good regular camera. But while I was at the University, I got married and we were very poor. After my studies, my husband got a not so nice job. Myself, I found one I was loving but I got pregnant, my husband found a job in another town where we moved, etc., etc.
I own a digital camera since almost 5 years now - I know it is not not much but it is the best gift - except for my son naturally - I did to myself.
But you asked also about someone who could have influenced me. One of my brothers is a professional journalist photographer and one of my cousin is a professional photographer too but he is self employed, selling his photos to big puzzle, calendar  Companies and so on. He does that for a living and he has a wife and two children. According to my brother, my cousin is much better than him, he is a great one. But none of them  never gave me any tips on photography.

Who or what motivates you to continue creating?
 Not "who", I always have my camera with me, wherever I go. I don't need to be motivated, taking photos is a real pleasure for me. I LOVE it! I am a nature and animal lover. Therefore, I take pictures of nature and animals. I am not interested in portraits or other subjects as still life, street... I have no intuition or impulse to take such photos.
Besides, I don't edit my photos. I don't have software to do it, except for Picasa. I like them to look "natural", my personal taste of course.

Of your own work, which has the most meaning to you and why?
 You mean a photo, in my own case? It may change often. For now I think of one I like particularly: What is this? by JocelyneR or jocelyner.deviantart.com/art/W… .
I love cats, I have five black cats and this photo is one of my youngest female, when she was almost 3 months old.
Why? Cats are parts of my life, they bring me love and joyfulness every day. On this photo, my little kitty is really discovering the outside world for the first time. There were birds and probably a squirrel outside. I love her expression of profound and intense astonishment. We can see this look often in babies - I mean human ones. It moves me very much.

Do you have any personal goals in relation to deviantART?
 Not especially. Everything is going well, I have kind and nice friends I exchange with, talented ones I sincerely admire, not only photographers but also painters and drawers, photo manipulators... I love art in all its forms. For now, my only goal is to keep in touch with friends of course but also with people from all over the world, to improve my photography and to admire artworks, creativity, talent and more.

Are you working on any projects or wish to promote some projects?
 No, not particularly. I am an admin in many groups and I consecrate as much time as I can to these groups, doing my best to help.

Which movies did you enjoy most?
 Harold and Maud

What type of music do you listen to? (Specific groups/artists?)
 I am listening to classical music ensembles, exclusively chamber music for now. I am a huge fan of Rufus Wainwright and I may listen to his music for hours. I like also James, Blunt, Nelly Furtado, Paul Simon,  Adam Lambert, Gordon Lightfoot, Peter Gabriel, Martha Wainwright, and many others. I have eclectic tastes as you can see.

Which books could you just not put down?
 Thrillers!!! I love serial killers (fictional)!

What foods can you just never seem to resist? Drinks?
 BBQ chicken, pizza, very old cheddar cheese, "French" bread, Coca-Cola, red wine sometimes, coffee, tea - I am North American...

What are your pet peeves on dA and in general?
 Disrespectful people mostly, dishonest ones. There are not many on DA I know though, I should say very few of them. I am for respect and justice.

Something random about yourself you wish to share?
 I sing!!! :D  In a Symphony Orchestra's Choir. A real pleasure!

What tips can you offer to better oneself in his or her art? Life?
 First, to learn, learn and learn! We never know enough and we won't, but at least we should be conscious that we always have to learn.
Second, to appreciate and admire people who are worth it. There is no place for envy or jealousy in art - and in life. To have models helps us to enhance ourselves.
Third, to be modest. To be conscious of our strengths and our weaknesses. The first ones help to lessen the second ones. Nobody is the best in this world and we must be open and listen to others and to what they can bring to us, being them poor or riches, etc.

What does Art mean to you?
 Art is a must in life. I can't imagine a life without art. Art sublimates pain and sorrow, art enriches the soul, art brings beauty, art IS beauty!
