On August 11, 2014 Robin Williams reportedly succumbed to depression.

Williams could make an audience laugh and, just as easily, cry. His most notable works include Mork and Mindy, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, and Mrs. Doubtfire.

In light of Mr. Williams cause of death, Aeirmid has opened a discussion about the devastating impact of mental illness.

My favorite tweet about Robin Williams: "We've never had a friend like him."

This so saddens me. I suffer from a mental condition, and I have to fight it on a daily basis, and I have to keep myself as close to being "normal" as much as possible.

I know that  Robin Williams was fighting alcohol abuse and drug abuse and he was back to his old self again.

I guess not.

I understand what he must have gone through; I often feel like going the way that he did. Still, he chose to give up.

What keeps me going are my grandchildren.  I want to see my great-grandchildren before I go.

This is so sad, he was a great actor. I especially loved Mrs. Doubtfire and Dead Poets Society, such wonderful movies!
Rest in peace Robin Williams. You will be missed!

I heard on the news after 20-years of sobriety he had gone to rehab in July as  a "preventive measure". My heart just breaks for him, for his family, his friends and all the fans around the world. When I heard the news from my husband I grabbed my head and just yelled, "no, no, no". As a cousin of mine said, "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem". I wonder if he was taking medication, which can help those who suffer from any form of mental illness. I take Zoloft™ for anxiety and OCD. Not sure what I'd do without it :sadangel:
